Situated on the north-eastern side of the district and spread over an area of 827 sq.km. Attappadi has one of the largest population of Tribal settilments in Kerala.The grandilquence of this great symphony of forests ,rivers and mountains is awe inspiring.
Many tribals like Irulas and the Mudugas live here,though the density of their population isvery low.The tribals worship the mountain peak”Malleeswaran” as ahuge ‘siva linga’ and Sivarathri at the Malleeswaram temple is the most imporant festival celebrated by the tribals.
The malleeswaram Peak and the River Bhavani have a tremendous influence on the lives of the tribals.The highland terrian are mostly fed by the tributeries of the river Kavery.
